Thanks for posting your report. The pictures say volumes.
No problem, I need to do the same drill with my J-22 just to compare results. Say............... how do I become a member of that Floral Slide J22 Owners Group. _________________ Currently concealed:

After you unload and disassemble the gun for cleaning carefully look inside the bore. Your barrel may in fact be rifled sufficiently but the grooves are full of black metal finish. Many SNS I have bought had the finish for the outside of the gun carelessly sprayed inside the barrel. The effect is the same as an extremely fouled bore. I would recommend thoroughly cleaning the barrel with Hoppe's and a wire brush. Over the next couple of shooting sessions you may find the accuracy and keyholing improve as the crud gets out of the barrel. _________________ If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat. -Mark Twain |

I have high hopes it will improve with age but looking in the barrel I see very minimal twist. My J-22 has a very visible twist in the riffling. Best pic I could get with my little cheapo cam. Put another 50 rds downrange at some evil soup cans last night.

Well... that does appear to be minimal twist. It reminds me of a special screw in choke that T/C once made for the .45/.410 version of the Contender pistol. It had straight rifling to counteract the effect of the rifled barrel when using shotshells. _________________ If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat. -Mark Twain |

| I found that lead filled the grooves on mine pretty quickly, also found out that the take down button, firing pin spring, and safety catch spring will work on the L22 from an L380. Had a slight binding problem when it gets hot, so I swapped the recoil spring to an extra I have from a parts kit for a J22, and it works great. The Jennings spring is a little firmer than the Lorcin spring. Might see if I can butcher a P22 magazine to fit. |

I _think_ they have them in stock. That is, they did say that they were out some time back, and the web site no longer says that. Good luck!
And on another topic: rifling. I _think_ this would work, but I'm not sure, so I throw it our for discussion. There are raw barrels out there and, indeed, there are cheap used .22 rifles. If one had a metal lathe (which I don't) it should be easy to cut a barrel into appropriate lengths, and then turn down the blanks to appropriate diameters. A bit of machining for the extractor recess, barrel pin, etc., and -- voila! -- J22/L22/JA22 barrels with quality rifling. If these could be turned our for, say, $50 or less, I think that would be a winner,
Is this practical? If so, in anyone out there a machinist? _________________ I have faith in the arms of totalitarian regimes: they rely on them as their only means of survival. |

You can buy .22 rifle barrel liners for about $20.00 each from Brownells. They are intended for restoring a barrel which has had the old bore drilled out to the proper size. I bet you could use one to create a new barrel, however I doubt they are the perfect diameter for a drop in replacement. You'd likely have to fashion shims to fit the frame properly. _________________ If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat. -Mark Twain |
