does anyone know exactly what the silver finish used on the jimenez pistols is ? with most of my other guns when they need cleaning i just break them down , set the plastic pieces aside , and toss em all into the ultrasonic cleaner with some simple green . they come out looking brand new . however i'm not sure exactly what the finish on my new ja32 is and was wondering what you guys use to clean them , or if you think it would be safe to ultrasonically clean them . i suppose i could run a test with the ultrasonic cleaner and just use regular old soapy water , but i figured i'd ask first . _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/grungebag/ |

| I would call Jimenez Arms and ask. I think it used to be electroless nickel coating. It may be something different now. |

i just called them and they said that it is infact plating ....looks like powdercoat to me , but who am i to disagree with the people that built it . so chrome it is . and for future reference they said that all of their finishes are safe to ultrasonically clean . good to know . _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/grungebag/ |

One area that Jimenez definitely improved on Jennings is metal finish. My black JA-22 has been fired alot this summer and I bet its still around 98%. The old ROF black finish would wear off if you looked at it too long. _________________ If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat. -Mark Twain |

yeah , i just wish i could have gotten my ja32 in polished chrome (hint hint jimenez) . they must still be using that black that wears off on the triggers tho , mine is already rubbing off on the edges . _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/grungebag/ |

Mine has a bit of wear on the edges. Most black/blue type finishes tend to wear first on the corners, especially if the gun is carried in a holster. My Sig P225 has alot of wear on the edges. With the older finish, anything that was touched would quickly fade to sort of a light charcoal gray. Case in point: my first JA-22 was made when Jimenez was still in Costa Mesa, CA. The frame may have been left over from Jennings. Over the course of summer 2008 the grip and trigger guard faded to a very well worn gray, while the newer JA-22 which was fired a whole lot this summer has retained nearly all of its finish. _________________ If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat. -Mark Twain |

i had a jimenez like that. i posted pictures of it on this forum like a year ago, but i can't find them on my computer. oh well.
i'm surprised that the finish on the new JA guns are plated. it looked to me like maybe it was raw zamak that had been shot blasted or sandblasted, then covered in some kind of a sealer to keep it from oxidizing. _________________
