Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and thought I'd say hello. During the past year I've come to own a Pheonix HP22 a Raven .25 acp a J.22 and I'm soon to be the owner of a Cobra CA 32. I'm sure I'll have some questions. My first one is regarding the Cobra CA 32. I bought a Cobra long bore derringer at the beginning of the month in .38 special but was very disappointed in its performance. It functioned fine but just about every round keyholed despite the ammo I ran through it and despite range. I sent it back, they replaced the barrel but it too keyhole on nearly every shot. Ultimately I worked out an even swap for the CA 32. I've heard good things about these little pistols and hope it lives up to its press. Do any of you own one and what to you think of it?
Thanks
Don |

Welcome Don! Glad you made it on board. I've already spoken to you about all of this so I'll let others chime in.

Welcome Don!
I don't own a Cobra but it is the reincarnated Davis P32, of which I own and shoot a little bit. It's a great SNS platform. I hope your swap bears fruit.
Looking forward to a report on the Cobra and your other pocket pistols. _________________ Maine. Where the Moose is King of the Road (by default). |

Got the Cobra ca32 and was impressed with its looks and its stout feel. Reminds me of a Raven on steroids. Got some Magtech and Privi Partizan fmj rounds to put through it. Went to the range today and had mixed results. The Magtech would not even feed the first round. The case mouths have a ridge that I can easly feel so I'm not surprised they wouldn't function. The Privi did OK, no failure to fire, a couple of failures to eject and one stove pipe out of 25 rounds fired. The biggest problem was keyholing. What is it with Cobra guns and keyholing? Anyway it didn't do it every round and seemed to do it less the more I shot it. I'll wait to see if this works itself out. On the positive side accuracy was good at the 8 to 10 yards that I was shooting it. I'll get a couple more boxes of the Privi ammo and try to work the bugs out. Gotta say though that at this point my cap and ball revolvers are far more reliable.

Don, I too have had the Cobra keyhole blues. Cobra replaced the barrels on my .22 derringer twice before I got a good one. That said, Cobra does stand by their products. I am not surprised to hear that Magtech malfunctions in your gun. Their 9mm ammo is not reliabe in my Sig P225 because of uneven cartridge overall length and bulged cases. I would not worry much about the stovepipe and failure to eject right now. Your gun needs to fire a few boxes of shells to get broken in and loosened up.
Some members have reported that other SNS produce an occasional keyhole when theyrebrand new that goes away once the gun gets broken in. While I have never experienced this, I will say that the bores of many of these guns are quite rough from the factory and require some rounds to get smoothed out. All my new Jimenez pistol barrels tend to accumulate alot of lead fouling when new. The more they are fired the less they do it. Accuracy improves alot too. _________________ If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat. -Mark Twain |
